Vashti (Cathy Selford) is the leading dancer of her generation here in the UK. At the forefront of her art Vashti has been responsible for introducing Middle Eastern Dance to many of the UK's leading performers.

Also a talented actress and linguist Vashti has worked in many prestigious locations, including 5 Star hotels in Syria, Morocco and Brazil and many other countries.

Vashti is an inspirational performer and teacher, one of the few remaining dancers who can remember what it was like to work in London during the 'hey days' of the '70s when every other street corner in the West End boasted a Middle Eastern Restaurant or Club. Sadly those days are now long gone, but Vashti is keeping the memories alive of those days in her workshops, lectures and performances. Vashti teaches classes in several venues around London and regular workshops throughout the UK and Europe in subjects ranging from the traditional Egyptian cabaret dance to Moroccan Folk dancing, classical and modern Persian and the beautiful Khaleegy Thobe dances of the Gulf States.

Vashti was our very first Guest Star when we held our first Celebrating Dance back in 2001 in Bideford and over the years she has been a valued contributor to the festival, so we are delighted to have her back to this year's festival.
